This weekend Laguna Shanti AIDS Resource Center and

www.GayLagunaBeach.org are sponsoring “Hunks in Trunks” a fund-raiser

benefiting Laguna Shanti.

“Hunks in Trunks” is a male model calendar search event with a

Saturday mid-evening swimsuit and underwear fashion show at

[seven-degrees].

How could one go wrong with that premise?

Tonight is the night to get the first look at the models participating

in the “Hunks in Trunks” modeling contest. This VIP Kick Off party will

include a hosted wine reception held in a beautiful garden area with a

rare Southern California appearance by “Jonny Pimento.” Madison Square &

Garden Cafe, 320 North Coast Highway, from 5 to 8 p.m.

The models will be coming to Laguna from Miami, New York and many

cities in between.

Saturday night is the much-anticipated Model Fashion Show Gala at

[seven-degrees]. The party will start at 5 p.m. for those with VIP passes

and 6 p.m. for general. The male models will be scantily clad, modeling

underwear and swimwear, starting at 8 p.m.

Celebrity guests will include Emmy Award Winning comedian Bruce

Vilanch, photographer Michael Childers, film star Miss Coco Peru and

UDP/Universal recording artist/”Pop Dance Diva” Lisa Frazier.

Adding to the evening’s energy DJ Jamie, making his way from L.A.

On tap is an evening of fabulous food, art and entertainment o’

plenty. [seven-degrees] is at 891 Laguna Canyon Road and the phone number

The weekend is actually packed with shows, DJ’s and other happenings

with the fund-raiser, including eight parties. The fun will run until 9

p.m. on Monday night.

Woody’s at the Beach, 1305 South Coast Highway will put on a Bachelor

Party on Friday from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. It’ll also have fantastic, ever

popular afternoon tea dance on Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m.

The Boom Boom Room, 1401 South Coast Highway, will host special DJ’s

all weekend. It’ll also have a bachelor party late Saturday night and the

closing party Monday evening.

The Art Institute final performance of season

The Art Institute of Southern California’s season finale of the First

Sunday’s 2002 will happen June 2 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. The free event will

offer the experience of both an art exhibition and a chamber music

concert.

“Collector’s Choice” is an exhibit of original works of art by more

than 70 international and local celebrated artists with around 30 artists

from Laguna Beach and other artists from Zimbabwe, Topanga, San Clemente,

Newport Beach and Dana Point. Several mediums will be represented:

watercolors, oils, sculpture, pencil, acrylic, collage, mixed media and

photography.

Laguna Beach Live! will be performing in concert with the Norman Major

Brass Trio.”

The music of Handel, Purcell, Vivaldi, Bach, Bernstein, De Jong and

Couperin will be performed. This will be an outdoor concert on the

pastoral back lawn of the campus. Please bring lawn or beach chairs. The

institute is at 2222 Laguna Canyon Road.

Art Walk shows appreciation with a party

First Thursday’s Art Walk thanked its sponsors with a party on May 16

at a cultural event at Diane Nelson Fine Art.

The event included live jazz and a contemporary dance performance by

Johnny Tu presented by the California Choreographers Dance Festival.

Tasty wine and hors d’oeuvres were served in an appropriate atmosphere --

the beautiful gallery on Forest Street.

De Ru’s Fine Art representative and First Thursday’s Art Walk

President Kathleen Updyke Barrett introduced guest of honor Mayor Wayne

Baglin and Arts Commission Chair Les Thomas, who have both been active

participants during the four years of the event.

“Every month, First Thursday’s Art Walk offers a different experience

at the galleries, whether it’s live music at the Richard MacDonald

Gallery, a dance performance at Marion Meyer Contemporary Art or artist

demonstrations at Studio 7 Gallery,” said Sian Poeschl, Art Walk founder

and city arts coordinator.
