Pony Baseball: Comeback Cardinals never say die

CORONA DEL MAR - Not enough accolades can go around for the

Cardinals hitting attack and steady defense in the final innings that

erased a two-run deficit and gave the Cardinals a 7-6 win over the Bulls

in Corona del Mar Pony Baseball play.

Trailing, 5-3, in the bottom of the sixth, the Cardinal bats suddenly

came alive.

Kelsey Chase led off the inning with a double, and was followed by

Jaffer Kattan reaching base on a third strike passed ball. Kyle

Schneekluth then tied the score with an RBI triple and came around to

score on a sacrifice fly to center by Ryan Lance. Andrew Dialynis singled

and scored on Hunt Rychel’s base hit.

The Bulls mounted a rally in the seventh, scoring a run, but the

Cardinals defense proved too strong.

Andrew Dialynis threw to catcher Jamie Kline, who tagged the tying

runner out at the plate.

Kyle Schneekluth then struck out the final two batters with the tying

runs on first and third to preserve the win.

The Cardinals clinched at least a tie for first place with the win.

The Bulls scored three runs early to grab a 3-0 lead, but the Cards

countered in the bottom of the first on a single by Lance, who scored on

a triple by Dialynis.

The Bulls scored again in the third, followed by two more Cardinal

runs on an RBI triple by Kattan, who then scored on a passed ball.

In other Pony action:

* Cardinals 10, Red Sox 3 - Martin Ostrowsky went 3 for 3 and made two

stellar defensive plays in leading the Cardinals over the Red Sox.

Several Cardinals had multiple-hit games including Ryan Lance, Kyle

Schneekluth, Andrew Dialynis and David Wheatley.

Catcher Jamie Kline threw out three Red Sox’ runners trying to steal.
