Adoption Guild tennis: Locals remain alive

Several locals won Sunday to advance to today’s action in the 41st

annual Adoption Guild Tennis Tournament.

In men’s open doubles, Newport Beach residents Parker Collins and Jeff

Thomsen defeated Christian Jensen and Carl King, 6-1, 6-1, to advance to today’s noon quarterfinal against top-seeded Scott Davis, from Corona del

Mar, and David Pate at the Newport Beach Tennis Club.

In men’s 35-and-older doubles, Eric Van’t Hof and John Washer, both

from Corona del Mar, advanced to today’s noon quarterfinal at the Racquet

Club of Irvine with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 triumph over Seth Bowen and Jerry

Franz.

Newport Beach’s Peter Davidson, teamed with Bill Howie of Laguna

Niguel, earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory Sunday to advance to today’s

35-and-older men’s doubles quarterfinal against Chris Dunk and Greg

Washer. They will play at noon at NBTC.

CdM High senior Brittany Reitz received a bye into today’s women’s

open singles quarterfinal. Reitz will play Vania King from Long Beach at

9 a.m. at NBTC.

Reitz also has teamed with Newport Beach resident Debbie Graham to

form the No. 1 seeded tandem in women’s open doubles. They have received

byes into the semifinals, which will take place Saturday.

In the mixed open doubles, Graham and Davis are the No. 1 seed. They

will meet Costa Mesa resident Julie Shapiro and her partner, Rick Conkey,

at 2:30 p.m. at RCI.

CdM residents Brian Barry and Michelle Manley, 6-4, 6-3 winners

Sunday, meet Newport Beach’s Jandrea Ouwendyk and partner Robin Walker

today at 9 a.m. at RCI. Ouwendyk and Walker earned a 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 mixed

doubles win Sunday.
