Boys volleyball: Miller, Kornegay first-team All-PCL

Corona del Mar High senior Spencer Miller and Estancia sophomore

Josh Kornegay top a group of four Newport-Mesa players recognized

All-Pacific Coast League by the circuit’s boys volleyball coaches.

Miller, a setter who led the Sea Kings to a third-place finish and an

eventual trip to the CIF Southern Section Division IV semifinals, is

joined on the first team by Kornegay.

Kornegay, a 6-foot-2 middle blocker and outside hitter, is one of

several reasons the Eagles are optimistic about making a bid for the

postseason in the Golden West League next spring.

CdM senior John Grod, a 5-11 outside hitter, and Costa Mesa senior

Carlos Jaime, a 6-0 outside hitter, are second-team honorees.

Northwood outside hitter Brandon Mel, as well as fellow senior

teammate Matt Susson, who both led the Timberwolves to their first

outright league title and a berth in Saturday’s CIF Division IV title

match, are Co-Most Valuable Players.
