Tiger win

COSTA MESA - Yankee runners attempting to advance on Tigers’

catcher Cody Spoulos ought to think twice about running next time.

That’s because the Tigers’ catcher threw out three would-be base

stealers and was on the receiving end of a 3-2 double play to help the

Tigers defeat the Yankees, 4-2, in a Costa Mesa American Little League

Majors Division baseball game.

Andrew Millian came in to pitch the final four innings, giving up two

hits and striking out five Yankee batters.

The Tigers were led offensively by Adam Gardner (two hits, RBI, run

scored) and Andrew Millian, Jason Schroeder and Cody Spoulos, who all

chipped in with hits and RBIs.

In other Majors action:

* Tigers 11, Cardinals 3 - A seven-run second inning secured the

Tigers’ win over the Cardinals in interleague action.

Chase Palombo led the Tiger attack with two hits and four RBIs, as

Cody Spoulos, Andrew Millian and Jake Johnston all had two hits, scored

at least one run and had an RBI.

Other Tigers contributing at the plate were Philip Weber, Jason

Schroeder, Scott Surdyka, Luke Ott and Daniel Hurley.

* Tigers 4, Dodgers 3 - Strong pitching from Cody Spoulos and Andrew

Millian, who combined to scatter three hits, strike out 10 and allow two earned runs, helped the Tigers defeat the Dodgers in interleague action.

Adam Gardner (two runs scored) and Millian each had two hits, while

Jason Schroeder singled and scored a run for the Tigers.

Philip Weber, Daniel Hurley, Alex Morlaz and Scott Surdyka also helped

the Tigers on the road to victory.

In Costa Mesa National Little League Farm Division play:

The Reds and the Rockies squared-off in the first round of tournament

games in the Costa Mesa National Little League Farm Division, which the

Rockies won, 17-11.

The Reds took the early lead, and scored at least one run in every

inning.

But the Rockies had a five-run second and a six-run fourth,

establishing a lead the Reds were unable to overcome.

For the Rockies, Nathan Frank had four RBIs, doubled twice, singled

and scored a run. Teammate Matthew Spicer singled three times, doubled,

scored two runs and had two RBIs. Spicer also made a solo double play in

the fourth. Maliah Murtha doubled twice, singled, scored three runs and

had two RBIs. Hannah Jeyarajah doubled, singled twice, scored three runs

and collected two RBIs. Rockies pitcher Aaron Wood doubled twice,

singled, had an RBI and scored two runs. Catcher Adam Ward singled twice,

scored a run and batted in three runs. Jesse Paz doubled twice, had two

RBIs and scored two runs. Noah Jeyarajah had an RBI double and scored a

run. Eric Rasmussen collected two hits, while Alex Mazur played strong in

left field to round out the Rockies’ attack.

For the Reds, Jeff Carlyle had an RBI on two singles and a double

while scoring three runs. Michael Quintana singled twice, scored a run

and batted-in three. Teammate Conrad Beach singled, doubled and collected

three RBIs, while Eddie Bisoso doubled, singled twice, scored a run and

had one RBI. Colin Moran doubled twice, scored a run and had an RBI. Max

Gilbert singled twice, had an RBI and scored a run. Robert Sullivan

doubled, singled and scored two runs. Brian Burciaga had an RBI triple

and eventually scored a run two plays later. Burciaga also made several

put outs at first for the Reds. Ben Beck doubled and scored a run.

The Reds and the Cubs will face each other in the second round, while

the Rockies will play the Diamondbacks.
