PHOTO OF THE WEEK

Every Memorial Day weekend, the Pilot sends a photographer to the

beach to sum up the weekend invasion of our beaches by inlanders. And

every year it’s the same situation, total chaos.

Luckily things were going my way this year. After jockeying for a

parking space, I made my way to the beach. Right off the bat I saw some

people burying a friend in the sand. I knew this was cliche, but the shot

is always different enough to work. As I was shooting this, I happened to

look over my shoulder and see a dog chilling out in a sun chair. Without

being rude to my sand-digging subjects, I hurried over to capture this

funny moment. When I made it over there, Coco the dog had been befriended

by Blake Kossuth of Riverside, who took a seat next to him on the beach.

Without a doubt, I knew this was the shot. I packed up my gear and

headed out. Another Memorial Day picture done and in the bag.
