The Last Word

Well, any day now, under the cover of night, some Balboa Island ducks

may find themselves ducknapped -- if you will -- and transplanted in

another Orange County city, perhaps.

“Quack.” Yep, that’ll be something missing from the Grand Canal after

the somewhat secret operation: Eliminate Duck.

But perhaps in reality, Newport Beach officials are ducking their own

no-feeding law. After all, Daily Pilot readers continue to tell us that a

Grand Canal woman still runs afowl of the law by feeding these birds. If

the city stuck to its law and reprimanded her, maybe she’d stop and the

ducks would fly the coop (sorry, wrong pun).

But then again, maybe the ducks would stick around. And, at that

point, if the city still wants to offer the webbed-footers a trip out of

the town, officials may stop to consider one thing: It may not be a

one-way ticket.

Ducks are known to fly.
