Jr. All-American sign ups this weekend

Huntington Beach Junior All-American Football will hold the first of

three player and cheerleader sign ups for its 2002 fall season on

Saturday and Sunday at Ocean View High School.

Sign ups will be between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the lawn area adjacent

to the parking lot facing Warner Avenue, just east of Goldenwest Street.

The league’s next registration weekend will be June 29-30, also at

Ocean View High.

AYSO Region 143 sign ups on Saturday

AYSO Region 143 will hold an “early bird” registration day for its

fall 2002 soccer season on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Village

View Elementary School in Huntington Beach.

Region 143 serves more than 1,600 children ages 4 1/2 to 19 in the Huntington Beach and Westminster areas.

Registration fee is $70 per child age 8 and under, and $90 per child

ages 9 to 19. There is a $10 discount if a child chooses to participate

in the region fund-raiser.

“Soccer teaches kids so much more than athletic skills,” said Jorggi

Delaney, regional commissioner of Region 143. “We are excited to offer

kids in Huntington Beach and Westminster another great year of soccer.”

Following Saturday’s registration, the region’s next sign-up date is

June 8.

Football camp at Edison High

Edison High will play host to this weekend’s Fundamentals Football

Camp. The camp, presented by West Football Camps, is open to local youth

football players. A few professional football players as well as area

coaches will give instruction that includes detailed skill development at

all positions, emphasis on football fundamentals, running mechanics and

speed enhancement, team concepts relating to defensive pursuit and

offensive strategies. The camp will feature non-contact participation --

no helmets and no pads.

The two-day camp will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days. The

cost per camper is $125 which includes a camp T-shirt, lunch and

instruction.
