Orange Coast River Park tries to gather support

A group trying to the create a park that connects three cities,

including Huntington Beach and unincorporated Orange County, held a

picnic to introduce its idea to the community.

The Orange Coast River Park Committee of the Friends of Harbors,

Beaches and Parks sponsored the picnic Saturday at the Talbert Nature

Preserve.

The focus of the event was to build support for the Orange Coast River

Park, which has been proposed by the group as a cooperative venture of

the cities of Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, the county of

Orange and private landowners.

Under the Friend’s concept plan, the 1,000-acre open space at the

mouth of the Santa Ana River would be jointly developed, operated and

maintained to provide interconnectinghiking and biking trails, support

facilities and a wildlife habitat and park management program.

The Friends of Harbors, Beaches and Parks was formed in 1997 to

promote parks and wildlife preserves in Orange County.
