Julie Bradshaw

Died at the age of 92 on May 26, 2002. A resident of Laguna Beach,

Bradshaw was the proprietor of the Seven Seas Motel from 1956 to 1998.

She was active in community affairs. She is survived by her daughter

Betty Lou Almond of Laguna Hills; seven grandchildren; five

great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Interment will be

private at Forest Lawn Park in Glendale, Calif. Memorials may be made to

the family in care of McCormick & Son Mortuary in Laguna Beach.

Bertha Eileen Demateis

Born September 27, 1909, died peacefully on Mother’s Day at her home.

Born in Nova Scotia, Demateis traveled to California and settled in the

town she loved, Laguna Beach, in 1943. She received her bachelor’s degree

in English at the age of 67. Passionate about learning, reading, the

theater and above all her grandchildren, she dedicated her life to her

family. She is survived by sons, Howard Chapleau and Rocco Demateis;

daughter-in-law Tyra; and grandchildren Chris, Michelle, Matthew and

Allison.

Marianne Farmer

Of Overland Park, Kan., died May 15, 2002 due to complications from an

automobile accident. Born January 9, 1918 in Lake Geneva, Wisc.

Farmer lived in Laguna Beach from 1998 to 2000 where she helped at the

Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce and was an Auxillian at South Coast

Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick in 1983

and is survived by her daughters, Kate Julian of Overland Park and Anne

Morris of Laguna Beach; two stepsons, Dixon Farmer and David Farmer; and

four grandchildren Lily Julian, Mindy, Matt and Ginny Farmer.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., June 15 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on Park Avenue in Laguna Beach.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to: American

Cancer Society’s Laguna Beach Relay for Life, 1940 East Deere, Suite 100,

Santa Ana, CA 92705.

Chuck Oberstein

Born December 18, 1935, died May 8, 2002. He was one of the most

critically acclaimed clown artists in the world. He was known for his

painting of the Wall Street Journal clown and the famous horse racing

form clown and in his later years for his figurine clown art. He is

survived by his wife, Judy; five children; and several grandchildren.
