A pitching Peirsol

ANAHEIM - “Pretty awesome.”

Those were the words swimming standout Aaron Peirsol used to describe

throwing out the first pitch before the Anaheim Angels’ baseball game

Friday night at Edison International Field.

Peirsol went to the game with Dianna MacManus, Dave Denniston and

Kicker Denzel, three fellow U.S. athletes that competed in the World

Championships held in Moscow in April.

He didn’t know until he was at the game that he would throw the first

pitch.

“They told me when I was there,” Peirsol said. “They introduced us on

the field. I wanted to do so it worked out.”

Peirsol hadn’t thrown the first pitch before Friday.

“People were cheering and clapping,” Peirsol said. “It was pretty

mellow, it was cool.”

Peirsol broke two short-course world records at the world

championships in the 200 back and the 200 medley relay, which Denniston

was a part of.

Peirsol broke the world record in the 200-meter backstroke (1:55.15)

March 20 in the national long-course championships in Minneapolis.
