Baseball: McGuire shows speed

IRVINE - Selected baseball players from the South Coast League

defeated their Pacific Coast League exhibition opponents Saturday, 8-5,

in the sixth annual South County Showcase at Windrow Park.

For the PCL, Costa Mesa’s Michael McGuire had two hits and three

stolen bases, along with one run scored, while teammate Nick Cabico

pitched two innings and went 0 for 2 at the plate.

Estancia’s Paul Flory pitched two innings for the PCL and did not give

up a run. Flory also singled at the plate. J.B. Goff also played for

Estancia.

Corona del Mar’s Billy Eagle, the PCL’s UCLA-bound designated hitter,

went 0 for 3.

In the second game, Jon Vandersloot and Cameron Pemstein of Newport

Harbor represented the Sea View League in its game against the Century

League.

The South County Showcase is presented by the Ryan Lemmon Foundation.
