Costa Mesa police arrested a 36-year-old man Tuesday morning on

suspicion of burglary, possession of a firearm and assault with a deadly

weapon, officials said.

Joel Stevenson was reportedly involved in a business dispute with

37-year-old Dean Deakyn, police said. Both men are Costa Mesa residents.

About 8 a.m., Stevenson broke into Deakyn’s home in the 500 block of

West 19th Street armed with a gun, Lt. Dale Birney said.

“Deakyn saw him with a gun, pulled out his own gun and fired a round

at Stevenson,” he said.

Stevenson then fled but was arrested by police shortly after, Birney

said.

Deakyn was not arrested, and no one was hurt in the incident.
