COSTA MESA PLANNING COMMISSION WRAP-UP

-- Compiled by Lolita Harper

Here are some of the decisions coming out of the Planning Commission

meeting on Monday.

EASTSIDE SUBDIVISION

Planning commissioners overwhelmingly endorsed plans to build three

two-story homes on a large Eastside lot.

WHAT HAPPENED:

Owners Willard Chilcott and Stephanie Fawley submitted a tentative

parcel map for 1561 Orange Ave. that details plans for three individual

lots to house three single-family homes. The owners would demolish the

existing small house to build according to the designs.

Lots 1 and 2 would each be 3,080 square feet and be built next to each

other on the front portion of the parcel, according to a staff report.

The third lot is designed to run the width of the rear of the property

and span 4,410 square feet. An additional common area in front of the

first two homes is also requested.

The rear home is slated to have four bedrooms, and the other two would

have three each. Each house would have a two-car garage, as well as a

space in the driveway leading to the garages for two additional cars.

The property is in a medium-density residential zone, and the

submitted design is consistent with that designation, Planning Department

officials said.

WHAT IT MEANS:

Chilcott and Fawley will be allowed to develop the lot as long as

various city-imposed conditions are met.

Vote: 4 to 1, with Planning Commissioner Eleanor Egan dissenting.
