Thompson pitches White Sox past A’s

Justin Thompson turned in a gem of a pitching performance Saturday as

he shut out the first place A’s, 2-0, on the final day of the Majors

Division regular season at Huntington Valley Little League.

Thompson blanked the A’s on two hits, singles by Trevor Springman and

Danny Watt, as the White Sox finished in second place.

They will join the A’s in the upcoming District 62 Tournament of

Champions.

Michael Bogard led the White Sox on offense with a three for three

game, which included a double.

Anthony Vidal doubled among two hits and Thompson, Jimmy Miller, Pat

Doran and Travis Hanley all singled.

In other games:

Diamondbacks 4, Mets 2

The D-backs made the most of their one-hit attack by combining it with

several Mets miscues to win the game.

Barry Luke’s first inning single was all the offense the D-backs could

muster. Devin Huskins scored twice.

The Mets picked up five hits, including a two for two game by Brian

Schwartz and singles by Ricky Marin, Josh Reisinger and Nick Mazzone.

Mariners 3, Rangers 2

Hits by Ryan Wirtz, Luke Patrick, Christian Slaton and Drake Thorn

helped the Mariners hang on for the win.

Slaton also scored two of the three Mariner runs.

For the Rangers, Weston Stevens singled twice and Trevor Briggs, Brian

Gianone, Tyler Goodman and Tony Ciarelli all singled.

A’s 3, Angels 0

The pitching combo of Race Parmenter and Alex Barnes shut down the

Angels and helped the A’s clinch first place in the division.

The duo got the shut out on a three-hitter that featured 15

strikeouts.

Pablo McBeth smacked his second home run of the season to power the

A’s on offense. The attack also saw a double by Parmenter and a Cody

Moran single.

The three Angels hits came from Michael Chairez, Jacob Augeri and Adam

Cutts.

Mariners 9, Diamondbacks 1

The Mariners scored their nine runs on nine hits.

Ryan Wirtz led the charge with a home run and double, Finau Fiaseu

went three for three with a double and three RBI, Weston Sarver reached

base twice and scored a run, and Luke Patrick, Drake Thorn and Adam

Martinazzi each doubled.

Barry Luke’s single in the sixth inning scored Dalton Heikka for the

lone D-back run.

Mets 10, Rangers 0

A four-man Mets’ pitching rotation subdues the Rangers.

Nick Mazzone, Tim Higgins, Dave Folger and Shawn Stiffler blanked the

Rangers on four hits.

Higgins was the Mets’ key figure on offense with a double and atriple.

Folger also had two hits, including a double, and Mazzone and Stiffler

added singles.

For the Rangers, Nick Soresi doubled and Brayden Kent, Brian Gianone

and Tony Ciarelli all singled.
