Come Friday evening, more than 1,800 Huntington Beach students can

call themselves high school graduates.

This week all five high schools in Surf City will graduate the senior

class of 2002.

As those students move on, there are those that would remind them --

you never know where you will land or what you may achieve.

“Its something that’s real great, to be a part of the graduation

ceremonies in the district, because it was only 10 years ago that I

received my diploma from Huntington Beach High school -- so I’ll be

handing out diplomas there on Thursday,” said Huntington Beach Union High

School trustee Matthew Harper. “It’s totally one of those things you’d

never have thought -- that you’d be there in your final year of your

first year as a school board member.”

Commencement ceremonies began Wednesday and will run through Friday.

Ocean View High School celebrated commencement Wednesday at 5 p.m.;

Huntington Beach High School and Marina High School graduations are at 4

p.m. today; Edison High School today at 5 p.m.; and Coast High School

Friday at 3 p.m.

Valedictorians for the classes of 2002 are: for Edison High School,

Julie Angh; for Coast High School, Tritia Inatomi; for Huntington Beach

High School, Christopher Pagnanelli and for Marina High School, Lulu

Wang. Ocean View High School will have four valedictorians whose

grade-point averages were at a tie: Naoshin Haque, Katherine Nguyen, Iris

Ma and Salman Rehmat.

“This class has just been fabulous -- lots of scholarships. Our kids

are going to lots of great schools its really an exciting time of year,”

said trustee Bonnie Castrey.
