Anderson lands All-CIF honors

The Laguna Beach High boys’ volleyball team will be in good hands next
spring with Matt Anderson.
Anderson was named earlier this week to the 2002 All-CIF Southern
Section Division IV team.
He is the lone Artist and only junior to be selected.
“It turned out to be a really fun year,” said the 6-foot-4 outside
hitter. “This is a really great way to cap the season.”
In addition to the All-CIF honor, he was the only junior to be named
to the All-Pacific Coast League squad.
Anderson, who is a member of the Balboa Bay Volleyball Club team that
will compete this July at the Jr. Olympics, was Laguna Beach’s team
leader in kills for the season with 385.
He finished with a .255 hitting percentage.
The Artists’ go-to guy on the court had 833 attempts, which doubled
that of the next player on the list, coach Shawn Patchell said.
“Those are pretty good stats for a junior player,” Patchell said.
“Matt continues to work hard and improve upon all facets of his game.”
The 17-year-old has played with the Laguna Beach volleyball program
since his freshman year, and the 2002 season, which concluded in May,
marked his first, full year playing varsity ball.
Anderson helped guide the Artists to a second place finish in the
Pacific Coast League standings.
