Meeting set on rules for recreational vehicles

Costa Mesa will host a town hall meeting tonight regarding

recreational vehicles before returning the long-debated issue to the City

Council for final action.

The meeting will focus on proposed regulation for recreational

vehicles on public streets and seeks to gain public input on a proposed

law that is pending formal approval by the council.

Over the past six months, the City Council has considered various

regulations to reduce the number of recreational vehicles parked on

public streets. The most recent proposal, which gained overwhelming

preliminary support from council members, is based on Newport Beach’s

similar law and calls for a citywide ban of motor homes on public

streets, with a 24-hour exception for loading and unloading.

A portion of the proposed ordinance -- mandating more loading or

unloading time in exceptional cases -- has been called into question as

it has different interpretations to different people.

City Manager Allan Roeder and representatives from the Police

Department and city attorney’s office will moderate the meeting.

The town hall meeting will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the

Neighborhood Community Center, 1945 Park Ave.
