Police department to hold citizen academy

The Laguna Beach Police Department is continuing its Citizen Police

Academy. The academy is a 12-week course designed to provide community

members with a better understanding of the city’s department and to

foster better communications between police personnel and the public.

The academy will include instruction in the history of the Laguna

Beach Police Department, investigations, traffic enforcement, gangs,

narcotics, neighborhood watch, the K-9 program and volunteer programs.

There will be a tour of the police facility, vehicles and equipment

used by the department. Participants will have the chance to shoot at the

police firing range, participate in mock scenarios and tour the Orange

County Jail.

Participants must be at least 18 to be considered for the academy.

They must live or work in Laguna Beach, have no felony convictions, no

pending civil or criminal cases with the city, its employees and have no

outstanding warrants for arrest.

The next class will begin on Sept. 4. Applications must be received by
