Kids talk back
Mary A. Castillo
The Coastline-Pilot went to El Morro and Top of the World elementary
schools to ask fifth-graders, ‘What is your hope for the future?’
“I want to be an author and illustrator. I’m hoping that my books will
make people realize that there are other people in the world who need
friends. A smile saves a life and when we’re nice to each other we can
change people’s lives.”
KATRINA CARRAS, 10
Top of the World
“I hope to be a fashion and interior designer. I always liked
designing outfits and stuff like that.”
HANNAH DOWE, 11
El Morro
“I hope I can get into dancing and acting.”
MOLLY FLYNN, 11
El Morro
“I’d like to be a stuntman because I was always hurting myself as a
little kid.”
SPIKE JACKSON, 11
El Morro
“My greatest hope is for world peace. I mostly don’t think about it
because in our past there were times when we were so close and then
something happened. After Sept. 11 I almost gave up but I know we can do
it if we work together.”
JULIE RABUN, 11
Top of the World
“My biggest dream is to be a professional tennis player. I want to
accomplish a national ranking, maybe No. 1 or 2 in the 15 and under
ranking. It has always been my dream.”
ALEX YATES-ROBINSON, 11
Top of the World
“I hope to become a professional baseball or soccer player. They’re my
favorite sports.”
ALEX SHUSKO, 11
El Morro
“My dream job is to be a chef. I want to own a restaurant for people
who don’t have a lot of money.”
BRIAN YALE, 11
