Junior National Track and Field Championships: Beerer, 7th in

hammer throw

PALO ALTO - UC Irvine’s Mike Beerer, who recently completed his

freshman season with the Anteaters, finished seventh in the hammer throw

at the USA Junior National Track and Field Championships at Stanford

Friday.

Beerer completed a 180-foot throw, which surpassed his season best of

174-10. John-Paul Smolenski from Purdue won the event with a throw of

215-0.

David Santos, also coming off his freshman season with the Anteaters,

finished 19th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:07.90, and did not

qualify for today’s final.

Kelli Vanderburg ran in the 5,000 meters late Friday night. Erin

Curtis (pole vault) and Jenny Liou (3,000-meter steeplechase) will

compete today.
