When a dispute arose over a deceased Newport Beach woman’s intentions

on how to split $1 million between the Salvation Army and Orangewood

Children’s Foundation, King Solomon was nowhere to be found -- and he

wasn’t needed.

An Orange County Superior Court judge was able to make the decision on

his own. It was clearly the intent of Penney Sue Bolton to split the

money evenly among the two parties.

The Salvation Army had argued that since it was listed in Bolton’s

will as the “primary beneficiary” while Orangewood took “secondary”

honors, the entire $1 million should go to the army.

It didn’t turn out that way. We’re just sorry the situation had to go

to court and that both parties couldn’t agree with Bolton’s pretty clear

intent. It’s amazing what greed a large sum of money can create.

Both parties should now feel quite gracious and use the grand sum in a

worthwhile and efficient manner.
