PONY baseball: NHBA Pony All-Stars triumph

CORONA DEL MAR - The Newport Harbor Baseball Association Pony

14-year-old All-Stars won four straight games to win the recent Corona

del Mar Father’s Day Tournament at Eastbluff Park.

NHBA defeated CdM’s 14 All-Stars, 8-0, behind the shutout pitching of

Dustin Shuler. Shuler struck out 10, allowed only four hits and walked

just two. He also helped his cause by going 3 for 4 with two doubles and

one run.

Chris Thompson added two hits and scored twice, while Nathan Cramer

hit a line drive home run and scored twice.

Nick Frazier had a double and two runs and Nathan Cantwell scored

another run for the winners.

In earlier tournament action:

*NHBA 19, Costa Mesa 6 - Chris Thompson and Ricky Nelson pitched well

for Newport Harbor, combining to strike out seven and walk just two.

Newport pounded out 19 hits in the game, including

back-to-back-to-back home runs by Thompson, Nathan Cantwell and Nick

Frazier in the fourth inning.

Frazier added a pair of doubles to his homer, while Thompson totaled

three hits and Cantwell two.

Dustin Shuler had three hits, including a double, while Nathan Cramer

had a double among his two hits.

Jeff Moore also had two hits for the winners, who received single hits

from Tyler Parker, Philip Martin and Nelson.

*NHBA 13, CdM (Team No. 3) 1 - Dustin Shuler and Michael Cantwell

teamed on the mound to allow only three combined hits and one walk and

Shuler paced the offense, going 2 for 3 with a homer, a double, two RBIs

and two runs.

Nick Frazier also homered and finished 2 for 2 with a walk, two RBIs

and three runs.

Tyler Parker also helped the NHBA power surge with a 3-for-3 day, that

included two doubles, two RBIs and two runs.

Nathan Cramer, Carmen Cimini, Michael Cantwell and Chris Thompson also

had hits for the winners.

*NHBA 6, CdM 13-year-olds 0 - Philip Martin and Kevin Gowdy combined

for nine strikeouts and just one walk, while Nathan Cramer, Tyler Parker

and Blake Fogg had two hits apiece.

Cramer tripled, scored two and drove in one, while Parker’s two hits

included a double and one RBI.

Nick Frazier had a double, one RBI and one run, while Dustin Shuler

had an RBI and a run to go with his one hit.

Carmen Cimini, Chris Thompson and Michael Cantwell also had hits for

the winners.
