Maggiano’s Little Italy in Costa Mesa has promoted Amy Mills from

evening manager to general manager. Mills, a Costa Mesa resident and

former food server at the restaurant, will be responsible for overseeing

the 300-seat restaurant’s day-to-day operations and its 150 employees.

Mills earned her bachelor’s degree in business management from Sacramento

State University and then moved to Orange County in 1994 to pursue a career in the restaurant industry. . . . Eagle Scout Mark Pomerantz was

selected as a student speaker at the Corona del Mar High School

graduation and spoke to the graduating class on Thursday about leadership

and responsibility. Pomerantz serves as the student board member on the

Newport-Mesa Unified School District board and is also a member of the

high school’s Associated Student Body board. In addition, Pomerantz is a

student athlete and has volunteered at the Golden Creek Retirement Inn

since 1997. . . . Interior Designer Deanna Robinson, of ASID Allied

Deanna Robinson Interiors Inc. in Costa Mesa, completed what she

considers to be the highlight project of her 23-year career. Robinson has

served as the overall inspiration, mentor and project strategist to the

client, contractors and architects involved with a three-year project on

a mansion in the San Gabriel Valley. The client wanted formal classicism

in his rooms and gardens, so Robinson worked with the architects to

ensure they achieved it. . . . Marine Corps Pvt. James F. Lewis of

Newport Beach completed the 12-week basic training at the Marine Corps

Recruit Depot in San Diego. Lewis and fellow recruits participated in

physical conditioning programs, classroom and field assignments, first

aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship,

hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training. They also received

instruction on the core values of the Marine Corps -- honor, courage and

commitment. . . . Ryan Chapman Lewis of Newport Beach was named to the

dean’s list at Wake Forest University in North Carolina for the spring

semester 2002. Lewis, a 1998 graduate of Corona del Mar High, had to

achieve a 3.0 or higher grade-point average to make the list. . . .

Orange Coast College’s School of Allied Health Professions honored 93

graduates in an annual pinning ceremony on May 22. Those students

included Mario A. Bolanos, Nicole Lidberg, Greg S. Briscoe, Tiffaney A.

Cordova, Karim M. Muradian, Maribell Conklin, Kelly Miller, Terry

Diggins, Tricia Muro, Brian T. Mock, Leslie Ragsdale, Marcy Nelson,

Christina M. Fyvie, Jeanette Rose of Costa Mesa and Candace Willinsky and

Kari Wyatt of Newport Beach. . . . Five Orange Coast College architecture

students received five of seven awards at the American Institute of

Architects, Orange County, awards ceremony held last month. Adam Bowhay

and Danelle Willems tied for first place in the monastery design

competition. Naomi Szto, Brad Goldpaint and Terri Moore received

honorable mention awards of $50 each.
