Readers Respond -- Residents anticipate missing fireworks

I’m so disappointed that we’re not going to have the fireworks anymore

(“Fourth of July fireworks fizzle at Dunes,” May 11). I’ve watched it for

30 years. My family and myself love it so much. I’m so disappointed. I

wish something could be done.

I’m so disappointed about the Fourth of July not being at the Dunes

anymore. It’s something we’ve all enjoyed for all of these years

“Increased liability” or payback to the citizens of Newport Beach for

voting down the mega-money-making hotel expansion the Evans’ family

proposed in place of their already-approved family inn?

The Evans family is selling out and moving on. Why not leave the

memories of good years behind as the legacy? It’s not too late. Let this

year’s fireworks show be your blazing swan song and a tribute to the

heroes of 9/11.

Imagine my disappointment when I woke up and opened the paper and read

the article about no Fourth of July fireworks at the Dunes.

This is a tradition for Newport Beach -- for those of us who grew up

here. For 38 years, we’ve been watching the fireworks at the Dunes. Now

our children are enjoying the same fireworks that we grew up watching.

It’s something that we look forward to every year. It’s just a trademark

of Newport Beach and the Dunes. I certainly hope that they reconsider.
