1. SUMMERTIME WINE: The 10th annual South Coast Plaza Summer Food and

Wine Festival will run from 6 to 9 p.m. today in the Crate &

Barrel/Macy’s Home wing of South Coast Plaza. Guests will enjoy premium

wines, microbrews and live music in addition to culinary specialties from

South Coast Plaza restaurants. Each ticket is $40 and will help to buy

more than 1,000 meals, which could feed a family of four for three

months. The plaza is at 3333 Bear St., Costa Mesa. Call for tickets.

2. A SCALY SCENE: A hands-on look at pythons, iguanas, giant

tortoises, millipedes and tarantulas geared toward participants 5 and

older will take place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday and Aug. 24 at the

Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center in Newport Beach. The center is

at 2301 University Drive. $10 per participant. Call for reservations.

3. HONORING HELPING HANDS: A volunteer recognition reception will be

held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Neighborhood Community Center in

Costa Mesa. The event, hosted by the city of Costa Mesa Human Relations

Committee, will honor those individuals who have volunteered their time

and talent to the city. The center is at 1845 Park Ave. Casual Attire.
