FRIDAY

The Laguna Playhouse

The Laguna Playhouse will present Neil LaBute’s play, “The Shape of

Things.” Directed by executive director, Richard Stein the play centers

on the ever-changing relationship between an audacious art major and the

shy young man who falls in love with her. The play will end its run on

The Sawdust Art Festival

The 2002 Sawdust Art Festival will open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., June

29 through Sept. 1. This 36-year old summer tradition will bring together

more than 175 professional artists from Laguna Beach who will display and

sell their unique work directly to the public. The Festival will also

feature demo booths such as glass blowing, complimentary hands-on art

workshops, a children’s art booth, refreshments from three restaurants

and a saloon, live music and more. Admission is $6.50 for adults, $5.50

for seniors, $2 for children 6-12 and free for children 5 and under. Free

admission will be offered to residents of the city of Laguna Beach from 6

to 10 p.m., every Thursday. To get in, residents must show a picture I.D.

SATURDAY

Laguna Culinary Arts will hold a Holistic Buffet class. The success of

any party menu is measured by your ability to finish the work by show

time and become a guest at your own event. The class will take place from

Laguna South Coast Cinemas Laguna South Coast Cinemas will continue

showing “Sordid Lives” at 11 a.m., June 29 and 30. The film is about a

family in a small Texas town preparing for the funeral of the mother.

The Peter Blake Gallery

The gallery will present an exhibit of new paintings by Geoffrey

Community Band

The Laguna Beach Community Band will perform a patriotic concert from

10 a.m. to noon, July 4 at the Sawdust Festival, 965 Laguna Canyon Road.

Laguna College of Art and Design Paintings, sculptures, drawings and

animation cells created by students of Laguna College of Art and Design

will be displayed. The show will open with an artist reception at 5:30

will take place at 5:30 p.m. August 1. The gallery will be open from 1 to

Fourth of July Fireworks

The city of Laguna Beach will deliver an impressive show of fireworks

from Monument Point starting at 9 p.m. July 4. The best viewing areas are

from Main Beach and Heisler Park. The area surrounding and below Monument

JULY 9

Laguna Playhouse

The Laguna Playhouse will present “Always . . . Patsy Cline,” a

musical based on the life and music of country artist Patsy Cline and a

Texas housewife, Lousie Seger who were friends until Cline’s untimely

death in a 1963 plane accident. Sally Struthers will star in the role in

Louise Seger. The play will preview July 9 through 12 and premiere on

July 13 running through August 25. The playhouse is at 606 Laguna Canyon

Vertical Wine Bar and Restaurant

Freemark Abbey will be featured at the Tasting Thursday event. Brian

Banking on Art

Banking on Art at Wells Fargo Bank will present sculptures and prints

by Terri Stiles Alkayali. Alkayali’s work will also be on display at the

Festival of the Arts and the Sawdust Festival. The show will open on July

Albert DeRome The Redfern Gallery will open a collection of

impressionist landscapes by Albert DeRome. Among his landscapes are those

that capture the haunting beauty of the Pacific Coast. The exhibit will

Latitude 33

Latitude 33 will host local author Andrew Winer who will read from and

sign his first novel, “The Color That Midnight Made.” The event will take

Music in the Park

The 2002 Music in the Park Concert Series will be kicked off by

traditional acoustic Celtic band Buzzworld. Everyone is invited to bring

Vertical Wine Bar and Restaurant

The theme for this Tasting Thursday will be summer in Tuscany.

Wineries featured will be Venica & Venica of Collio in Friuli, Venezia

Cosio will be on hand to discuss the wines. The event will take place
