EXCHANGE CLUB NEWS: Exchange Club District President Dick Freeman ran

the recent District Convention held at the Irvine Marriott like a “Swiss

watch,” according to member Tom Norton. “He was funny, witty and very

aware of all the people present. After all, he had visited 50 of the 60

clubs in the California-Nevada District,” Norton added.

Conference events included the Search for Talent contest, featuring

club winners, presentation of club service awards, a speech by singer Pat

Boone and Life Time Achievement Awards presented to Mike Gertner of the

Exchange Club of Newport Harbor and Jack Wilder of the Exchange Club of

Orange Coast.

NEW LIONS CLUB OFFICERS: Members of the Harbor Mesa Lions Club met at

the home of member Barbara Hayward to honor the new officers of the club.

Outgoing President Janie Harris handed the gavel to the new president,

Marianne Segalla. Other new officers include Joan Parks and Carol Van

Holt, vice presidents; Sandi Scheafer, secretary; Karen Lamas, treasurer;

Joan Parks and Barbara Hayward, bulletin editors; Marianne Allen, tail

twister; Ann McIlroy, lion tamer; and Eunice Thomason, Arlene Shafer,

Barbara Hayward, Gina Stansbury, Bernice Ellis and Lorna Young,

directors.

COOKIE CRUISE: The Newport Beach Sister City Assn. Okazaki Committee

invites you to meet and greet six City Council members from Sister City

Okazaki at a special Adventure at Sea Yacht Charter from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

July 14. The cost is $15 per person for the cruise, cookies and sodas. A

no-host bar is available. Reservations must be made with Connie Skibba by

YACHTSMEN’S LUNCHEONS: This Wednesday’s Yachtsmen’s luncheon planned

for noon at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club will feature Marshall “Duffy”

Duffield, who will discuss the new, 30-foot Duffy electric boat. On July

17, Art Gronsky will share a video on tuna fishing in the good old days,

while Daily Pilot boating columnist Mike Whitehead will be the speaker on

July 24.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF SERVICE CLUBS: David Kaech joined the Newport

Beach-Corona del Mar Kiwanis Club. Michael Levine and Marcia Mark joined

the Rotary Club of South Coast Metro.

Crowns Restaurant to hear David Armstrong present a program on bagpipes.

6:30 p.m. The Costa Mesa-Newport Harbor Lions Club will meet at the

Costa Mesa Country Club.

WEDNESDAY

7:15 a.m.: The 20-member South Coast Metro Rotary Club will meet at

the Center Club (www.southcoastmetrorotary.org), and the Newport Harbor

Kiwanis Club will meet at the University Athletic Club.

Noon: The 35-member Exchange Club of the Orange Coast will meet at the

Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club to hear Steffan Vansteenkiste.

6 p.m.: The Rotary Club of Newport-Balboa will meet at the Bahia

Corinthian Yacht Club for the demotion of the club’s president, Elmer

Biggerstaff, and installation of Roger McGonegal as the new president

7 a.m.: The 20-plus-member Costa Mesa-Orange Coast Breakfast Lions

Club will meet at Mimi’s Cafe to hear Scott Paulson of the Newport-Mesa

Schools Foundation.

Noon: The 50-member Costa Mesa Kiwanis Club will meet at the Holiday

Kiwanis Club will meet at the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club to hear Bob

Cuyler discuss the final plans for the July 14 Pacific Coast Triathlon,

the 80-member Exchange Club of Newport Harbor will meet at the Newport

Harbor Nautical Museum for the presentation of the Police Office of the

Year Award, and the 100-member Newport-Irvine Rotary Club will meet at
