Catch a movie. The Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort Hotel will show
movies on the beach every Friday and Saturday during the summer. Showings
will begin at dusk. Today, the film is “Independence Day.” Newport Dunes
is at 1131 Back Bay Drive, Newport Beach. Admission is free, $7 for

SUNDAY
Meet Huck and Jim. The Trilogy Playhouse will present “Big River”
through July 21 at 2930 Bristol St., Building C-106, Costa Mesa. Show
times are 7:30 p.m. Friday, 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, and 5 p.m.

MONDAY
Free magic. Children entering first through sixth grades are invited
to “Mysteries of Magic,” a free magic show at 10:30 a.m. at the Newport

TUESDAY
Get an impression. “Mediterranean Colorscapes,” a free exhibit of
landscape and seascape paintings by Marlyse Ruess, will be on display at
the Newport Beach Central Library through July 31. The Newport Beach

WEDNESDAY
They’re circling. The Sharks will kick off Fashion Island’s Summer
Concert Series at 6 p.m. The free concert will take place at the Newport
Beach shopping center’s Bloomingdale’s Courtyard. Reserved seating is
