Sharks chew up Fire to win division title

In a well-played match that went down to the wire, the Sharks held

off the Fire, 2-1, to win the Norris Division championship as

postseason play came to an end at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center

in Huntington Beach.

Jake Briggs scored the match’s first two goals -- with assists

going to Katie Goode and Ryan Cox -- as the Sharks opened up a 2-0

lead through two periods of play.

Brett Shaver had a shutout going in the net until the 2:19 mark of

the final period. That’s when Matthew O’Donnell scored off a Jared

Neely assist for the Fire.

Travis Beckman came up with 20 saves for the Fire.

In other division championship games:

SMYTHE DIVISION

Kings 3, Menehunes 1

Jonathan Floren scored two goals and Zane Weber scored once to

lift the Kings to the title.

Aaron Nguyen finished with 22 saves.

The Menehunes’ goal came from Kyle MacLeod off an assist by Nathan

Ferrer, and Tip Donaldson had 24 saves.

PATRICK DIVISION

Piranhas 4, Kings 0

Ryan Turchi recorded the shutout victory with 28 saves. He was

backed by the scoring of Piranhas teammates James Dufour, Brandon

Prince and Brian Weingart, who led the way with two goals.

Weingart also had an assist, as did Ross Turchi.

Despite giving up four goals, Kings goalie Geoff Blaskey had 27

saves.

HOWE DIVISION

Good Team 5, Vipers 4

The Good Team’s scoring was spread evenly among Tyler Bales,

Timothy Hunt, Matthew Erickson, Eric Morejon and Ryin Amador.

Bales and Erickson each had an assist, and Michael Mowrey had 16

saves.

For the Vipers, Kyle Evans topped all scorers with three goals and

Justin Romers scored once. Tyler Post posted 24 saves.

CAMPBELL DIVISION

Carnivores 5, Pythons 2

David Mastro scored twice to lead a Carnivores offense that saw

Andrew Mendoza score once with an assist and Noah Johnson score a

goal.

Dane Chavez had 21 saves.

Josh Duchon scored both goals for the Pythons and Colby Rios

recorded 22 saves.

WALES DIVISION

Avalanche 6, Avengers 5

Derek Rosas scored two goals and also assisted two others, David

Marabella had two assists, Martin DeJong scored once with an assist,

Travis Nagle had an assist, and Justin Del Campo finished with 24

saves to lead the Avalanche.

Kyle Anfang scored three goals to pace the Avengers, Ethan

Nicholls and Greg Weaver each scored once, Gregory Martin had two

assists, Bryan Van Arsdale had an assist and Brandon Rodriguez had 27

saves.

LEMIEUX DIVISION

Last Chance 8, Hawks 3

Adam Stanford netted three goals, and Jake Bartley, Jeremy Miller,

Brett Martin, Brian Ayala and Kevin Rannow each scored once to lift

Last Chance.

Rannow also contributed three assists and Bartley had two.

Chaz Grant scored once with an assist, Kevin Mahoney and David

Evans each scored one goal, Ali Ansary and JM McNulty each had an

assist and Mike Urbano finished with 29 saves to lead the Hawks.

MITE CLUB DIVISION

Young Guns 11, Red Bulls 1

Tyler Lake burned the nets for six goals, David Marabella finished

with three goals and three assists, Colten Daigneault scored once and

had three assists, and John Webb scored once with a pair of assists

to power the Young Guns.

Janien Barber recorded 16 saves.

The Red Bulls’ offense consisted of a goal by Nathan Sutton and an

assist by Bennett Allen. Aaron Sutton had 23 saves.

JR. HIGH A DIVISION

Mesa View Eagles 8, Lex/Walker 7

Kevin Kraus and Michael Burkhardt each scored three goals,

Jonathan Gibo and Darryl Morita each scored once, Kraus and Morita

each had two assists and Ross Turchi had 16 saves to lead Mesa View.

Taylor Apostol’s six goals paced Lex/Walker, Matthew Hiraoka

scored once and Cody Ross had 19 saves.

JR. HIGH B DIVISION

Stacey 3, Sowers 1

Shane Lakes scored two goals, Erik Stern scored once and Jaryd

Mason had 22 saves to lead the Sentinels past Sowers.

Kyle Anfang scored for the Sowers Vikings and Blake Easton

recorded 28 saves.
