Cast of characters will rival “Survivor”
This week kicks off the filing period for the City Council, the
start of the local political equivalent of “Survivor.” All but
three candidates will be voted off by Election Day in November. The
survivors will be voted in, not to fame and fortune, but maybe to
honest and diligent public service.
The voting public will be exposed to a wide cast of characters
made up of all ages, backgrounds and qualifications. The next 16
weeks should be interesting and informative.
However, we must remember that this is not just civic
entertainment.
This is civic reality. While reality-based shows are all the rage
right now, we should not forget that we are still being sold
something and that we will be stuck with what we buy for four long
years.

Upstairs of Newland should be reopened
I think that the second story
of the Newland House should be reopened. It contains the only gas
fixture that is remaining in the house when it was built.
And how many New England homes allow access to the upper story?
I think it should definitely be reopened.
