Showing no mercy

There’s no doubting that Corona del Mar’s Pony 14-year-old

baseball All-Stars have been swinging hot bats so far in their two

District 3 Tournament games, both wins, as CdM has tallied 13 runs in

each of its two tournament games.

But Tuesday at Amerige Park in addition to a stellar offensive

attack, CdM pitchers Tom Money and Shawn Mohler combined to one-hit

Dana Point, allowing only one run.

Money went four innings, striking out six while allowing one hit

while Mohler pitched one inning, striking out all three batters he

faced.

“(Mohler) was just throwing gas, when he’s on like that he’s

virtually unhittable,” said CdM Manager Peter Hauser.

And the CdM bats complemented the pitchers very well Tuesday

night, racking up 13 runs in a 13-1 win after umpires called the game

after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

CdM steadily built its lead, scoring two in the first, one in the

second, four in the third and three in each the fourth and the fifth.

CdM started its run-scoring barrage in the first, as Ryan Lance

doubled and Mohler singled him in. Andrew Dialynas then doubled,

knocking in Mohler.

The third inning was CdM’s big inning, as they scored four runs.

After hits by Maxwell and Lance and a walk to Dialynas, Michael

Kordich walked with the bases loaded to pick up an RBI and then Jamie

Kline doubled to score two more runs.

The runs kept coming in the fourth as Matt Raiger led off with a

base hit followed by consecutive hits from Maxwell, Mohler and

Dialynas.

Maxwell was active on the base paths, stealing second and then

coming home on a passed ball in the inning.

Matt Doran and Kyle Schneekluth got in the action in the fifth, as

Schneekluth walked and eventually scored on Maxwell’s double, as

Doran hit an RBI double.

On the day, Mohler went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and had two

RBIs while Kline also collected two RBIs. Raiger went 2 for 3 and

Doran went 1 for 1.

Matt Hauser has been hot the last two games, smacking nine hits.

Shawn Maxwell went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs scored

while Ryan Lance also went 3 for 4 with two runs scored.

Hauser has collected nine hits in his last two games in the

tournament.
