Helicopters a help, not a hindrance...
Helicopters a help, not a hindrance
I support our Police Department helicopters.
They flew over my house the other night and I paid particular
interest to the noise -- it was minimal. My house is 40 years old and
my windows and roof do not shake. I would suggest Mary Fairfield have
a talk with her builder (“Helicopters are a nuisance -- not an aid,”
Mailbag, July 4). If I awaken
at night and hear the helicopter flying over I go back to sleep
secure in the knowledge that if
I need help they will be there in seconds. Also, remember that
while those officers are out on patrol at night keeping our
city safe, their families are
home without a husband or father’s protection. I hope the cities
they live in are as well protected.

Copters both costly and a nuisance
I am replying to the letter about the helicopters being noisy.
Amen to Mary Fairfield’s letter about the noisy helicopters. These
machines cost us more than $400 an hour, and surely there is a better
way for Huntington Beach to be balancing its budget without spending
money on these machines. And why do they have to be flying around
night after night over residential neighborhoods? They seem to be
more intrusive and noisy than useful.

Historical second floor should be open
I miss taking people upstairs in the Newland House just because
one lady fell where it got narrow. Yes, please kindly, open it. Those
people that run the Newland House are absolutely knowledgeable and
visitors are missing part of the story as they tell you about the
house and the people who built it.

Banner towing planes need to go
The Fourth of July holiday was awful. I live a mile from the beach
and couldn’t even enjoy my backyard without the constant drone and
annoyance of those banner towing planes flying overhead. Talk about
noise pollution. Nobody is reading the banners anyway; the
offending advertisers should realize that not only are they not
reaching much of an audience, but they’re annoying people and
generating adverse publicity for themselves.
Post a notice at local airports advising of the new law once it’s
passed.
Send notices to companies that do banner advertising. Those two
acts alone would cut down the number of planes right away, so the
police wouldn’t have to give as many citations in person. Ralph Bauer
might not think it’s a burning issue, but those of us living under
the flight path of these planes do. I urge the City Council to pass
this proposed ordinance as soon as possible.

Jennifer McGrath for city attorney
I am in support of Jennifer McGrath for Huntington Beach City
Attorney.
I have worked with her on several occasions and she is
very competent and knowledgeable. She would make a very good
city attorney and get Huntington Beach back in line of what a city
attorney’s office should be.

I support Jennifer McGrath for Huntington Beach City Attorney.
Although I live in Fountain Valley, and therefore cannot vote in the
election for her, I have worked in Huntington Beach for the last 25
years, and consider myself as having a vested interest in the
business community.
