Island Shade softball wins a pair
Island Shade got off to a fast start in Men’s Summer 16” Softball
League play by winning their first two games.
Their most recent victim was the Good, Bad and Ugly, which was on
the short end of a 5-2 score in Tuesday action.
Chuck Emanuele hit three singles in a three for three performance
and Andy Bunn went three for four with a double and pair of singles.
Tom Taylor had the game’s biggest hit, a two-run home run.
Winning pitcher Bruce Aguinaldo yielded seven hits.
Rotary came off a first week bye to open league play on a winning
note as they used an 18-hit attack to win 10-4 over Team Viagra.
Greg Butler and Ed Sands paced the offensive onslaught, each with
a four for four day.
Bob Johnson hit a home run and two singles and Mike Hayes produced
a triple, double and single.
Dave Brobeck and Keith Mulvany each doubled and singled twice to
pace Team Viagra.
Sandpiper rounded out Tuesday’s action with a 5-2 decision over
Ganahl Lumber.
A 12-hit attack included a home run by Ryan Neptune.
Robert Bonn homered for Ganahl Lumber.
In Wednesday’s league play, sponsored by the City of Laguna Beach,
Sports World upset defending champion Mesa Verde Partners, 10-6.
A six-run fifth inning, featuring a grand slam by Brad Davidson,
propelled Sports World to the win.
Other big hitters for Sports World included the two-hit
performances of John P. McMurray and Teo More.
Ryan Neptune hit a pair of solo home runs for Mesa Verde Partners
and Dave Meggison belted a three-RBI home run.
In another Wednesday game, Sofa Kings topped 40 Majority, 8-6, as
Kasey Curtis hit a first inning, two run home run.
Taylor Pillsbury drove in five 40 Majority runs by hitting two
home runs.
The final game of the day saw Hobies defeat Courtesy Auto Body,
12-2. Jake Schwaner singled four times to lead Hobies. James Dooley
hit a first inning home run and later singled for Courtesy Auto Body.
