What to do, what to do?

There are always so many things going on that it is impossible to

do everything but you can have a great time trying.

[seven-degrees] is smoking

On Wednesday [seven-degrees] will have an artist reception for the

amazingly talented Christopher Schultz. His sculptures are amazing

and I was extremely impressed when I saw his work at [seven-degrees]

about a month ago. So don’t miss his genius.

Music in the Park

Last weekend’s Celtic band had people up and dancing, and this

weekend should be even better. Marilyn and Les Thomas were on hand as

ambassadors and great and friendly greeters. The people in Laguna

Beach are so nice. Our community is very unique.

At 5 p.m. Sunday Reno Jones will be belting out the blues.

The concert is free and will last until 7 p.m. So bring a blanket,

picnic basket some beverages and friends and you’ll have a blast

listening and dancing. The concert is at Bluebird Park on the corner

of Cress Street and Bluebird Canyon Drive.

Music at the Sawdust festival

The Sawdust Festival has live music every afternoon and night of

the festival with more than 45 different entertainment acts ranging

from jazz, rock, bluegrass, classical and others.

From 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. tonight and again on Aug. 9 the light rock

group Living Proof is performing. Peruvian music will reign with a

performance by the Inka Kings from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3

and 11.

The Barbara Reed quartet will provide entertainment from 5:30 to

9:30 p.m. Monday and Aug. 9, 16 and 30.

And the ever-popular Laguna Beach Community Band will be showing

their stuff from 5 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 3, 9, and 27.

While at the Sawdust festival enjoy the 188 artists that represent

a wide variety of art media. So it’d be hard to not find what you’re

looking for.

It’s always fun and laid back. The prices are great and it is

wonderful to support our local Laguna Beach artists. It’s great to

run into so many familiar faces and socialize.

Plus if you’re hungry or thirsty there are plenty of places to go

on the grounds including three cafes, a snack cart and a “saloon” as

they call it that serves a selection of 20 beers and six wines.

Art Walk Thursday

I am sure you all are thrilled that our beloved Art Walk is back

after its Fourth of July vacation. I was having withdrawals. And true

to form there will be more than 40 galleries opening their doors with

some offering artist receptions, new exhibits as well as live music

and dancing. First Thursday’s Art Walk runs from at 6 to 9 p.m.

This month artists’ receptions will be held at Marion Meyer

contemporary Art, Laguna North Gallery, J. Kamin Fine Art, Quorum Art

gallery, Sandstone gallery and The Redfern Gallery.

So take a tour and bring your friends and enjoy.

Surf Culture a huge event at Laguna Art Museum

LAM has been gearing up for their latest exhibit Surf Culture --

The Art History of Surfing. It’s just started and will run through

Oct. 6.

I was lucky enough to get a tour of the museum in the early stages

last Monday. I can’t wait to see it this weekend.

The exhibit is huge and encompasses all levels of the museum.

There were a plethora of surfboards dating back to the earliest all

the way to the latest. It’s cool to see the different changes that

have morphed over the years in regard to products, attitudes and

culture itself.

It’s fascinating and a very in-depth exhibit.

Old pictures of surfers turning brown on the paper, to modern and

abstract full-color images await you. Plus there is every kind of

surf artifact to be found, each telling a story about the times and

reflecting changes -- both social and political.

The wonderful thing about the exhibit is that there are also a lot

of correlating lectures, movies and events that coincide with the

whole event.

“There’s nothing that says Southern California more than surf,”

said Stuart Byer public relations director of the museum. He is so

right on and this exhibit truly exemplifies that and more.
