Enrollment increases for OCC fall semester

Orange Coast College’s fall semester has given the school another

gain in enrollment. School officials say 11,633 students -- or a 6.9%

increase over the fall 2001 semester -- have signed up for fall

classes so far.

The numbers also reflect an 18.8% increase since fall 2000, OCC

spokesman Jim Carnett said. The fall numbers should also increase as

the school nears Aug. 26, the first day of classes. About 28,000 are

expected by Dec. 15, the end of the semester.

Applications are still being accepted. The admission office is

open from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to

1:30 p.m. Friday. Information: (714) 432-5072.

Water district issues use efficiency report cards

The Irvine Ranch Water District has begun issuing monthly report

cards to landscaping contractors and property managers for their

efficiency in water usage.

The report cards, which hand out grades of A to F, are mailed out

on the third business day of each month to its customers. Customers

in Santa Ana Heights won’t receive the grades because they aren’t

within the district’s tiered rate structure.

Grades A to B- indicate an efficient use of water, while grades C

to F mean homeowners associations are paying too much and could

improve water management.

The grades are not being sent to residential customers.

The district began sending out the report cards in February.

About 70% of the landscapers meet their monthly allocations of

water, while about 30% tend to waste some amount of water, district

spokeswoman Marilyn Smith said in a statement.

The water district serves 266,000 customers in Newport Beach,

Costa Mesa, Irvine and portions of other cities.
