Rotary topples undefeated Island Shade

Rotary used two-runs in the top of the eighth inning to pull out a

3-1 victory over previously undefeated Island Shade in Tuesday League

action in Laguna Beach’s Men’s Summer Softball League play.

Brian Jones went three for three to lead the Rotarians.

Chuck Emanuele hit a solo home run and Wade Jones went three for

three for Island Shade.

In other Tuesday League play, Sandpiper moved into a three-way tie

for second place in the standings by outscoring Used Cars, 12-8.

A six-run outburst in the second and fourth innings carried

Sandpiper, which shared second place with Island Shade and Ganahl

Lumber.

Sandpiper got home runs from Chris Howell, Jeff Heminghaus and

David Sommerville in the second inning, and a grand slam from Steve

Lafferty in the fourth.

Lafferty finished the day three for four and Brett Nelson went

three for three.

Used Cars attempted a comeback in the top of the seventh inning. A

five-run rally included consecutive home runs by Pete Wisner, Mike

McKenzie, Mike Cooper and Bob Woodruff.

The other Tuesday League game saw Ganahl Lumber blank Good, Bad

and Ugly, 9-0.

Robert Ponce and Gary Rauch each hit home runs and Robert Bonn hit

a pair of doubles and a single to lead Ganahl.

John Mallet and Randy Underwood each singled twice for Good, Bad

and Ugly.

Sofa Kings and Sports World stayed tied for the top spot in

Wednesday League play each by recording convincing victories.

Sofa Kings defeated Hobies, 10-1, as Marco Johnson singled four

times in going four for four and Bill Albert singled three times.

Jeff Tankersly held Hobies to three singles and a home run by

Brandon Jessie.

Sports World blanked 40 Majority, 12-0, as Randy Buck threw a four

hit shutout and John McMurray homered, doubled and singled.

Teo Moore also provided a three-run home run.

The Mesa Verde Partners got back on the winning track by beating

Courtesy Auto Body, 9-5. Dave Sommervillw and Scott Henderson each

hit two home runs and Steve Bryant homered and singled.

Josh Stock homered and had two singles, and Mike Jewell homered

and singled for Courtesy Auto Body.
