Packers sign Chris Jackson

The NFL door has reopened for Chris Jackson, a former Orange Coast

College standout receiver. The Green Bay Packers signed Jackson as a

free agent Thursday. Jackson recently finished his third season of

playing with Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League.

Jackson, the Avengers’ all-time leading pass catcher and touchdown

maker, was originally signed by the Seattle Seahawks in the spring of

1998. He spent the majority of the ’98 and ’99 season on the

Seahawks’ practice squad. After being waived in September of 1999, he

signed with the Tennessee Titans and played in one game against

Pittsburgh, Oct. 5, before suffering a back injury and being placed

on the injured reserve. He was released March 1, 2001 and has not

been on an NFL roster since.

Jackson, a 6-2, 2-5-pound wide receiver, has been assigned jersey

number 7. The Packers’ depth at wide receiver is rather

inexperienced. They signed troubled and oft-injured wideout Terry

Glenn in the off-season, and drafted Florida State standout Javon

Walker
