Orange County Fair does more than fair

Every year, 17 days at the Orange County Fair just comes and goes,

but this year’s fair has been something to remember.

Kudos to General Manager Becky Bailey-Findley and her entire staff

at the fairgrounds. This was indeed a well-run fair, but the kudos go

to the concert lineup, the best yet to date, with something for

“most” everyone.

I attended seven of the 17 concerts offered, from opening night

with Huey Lewis and the News to the closing night with Lynyrd

Skynyrd, and in between with the B-52s, the Guess Who, Styx, Boz

Scaggs and Heart. I also caught both comedians, Carrot Top and Weird

Al Yankovic.

You certainly outdid yourselves this year and, of course, we are

all looking forward to what will be offered to us at the 111th Orange

County Fair in 2003.

Dunes’ owners should thank law

Tim Quinn and the Evans family blew their legacy at the Dunes when

in June 2000 they promoted the 470-room hotel/convention

center/time-share cottages (“Council delays Dunes decision until

fall,” June 29, 2000).

Has the Daily Pilot and the Quinn/Evans family forgotten the

California Coastal Commission requirement of land use on the county

property and state tidelands?

What the Greenlight Initiative did was preserve the family legacy

at the Dunes.

Tim Quinn and the Evans family should be grateful to the voters of

Newport Beach.
