Stray cat turned vicious because it was hungry

It took me a long time to respond to this article because it so

saddened me (“Sad cat fight,” June 15). Sorry about Ashley Swartz’s

cat. Wouldn’t it have been a lot easier and less painful if she had

just spent 25 cents and popped a can of food for the poor, starving

animal? The animal only turned vicious because it was hungry. Can’t

anyone relate to what hunger pangs and an empty stomach feel like?

More compassion, please.

Residents should not have to financially support Job Center

The Costa Mesa Job Center is set up to provide a location where

those who need work can meet with those who need workers. This is a

great idea, and one that could serve the community well.

The problem is that this Job Center is subsidized by the city of

Costa Mesa but provides services to many citizens of other

communities. There is no requirement that the workers looking for

work reside in Costa Mesa nor is there a requirement that employers

looking for workers reside or operate businesses in Costa Mesa. Why

should our city subsidize the Job Center for the benefit of other

communities, such as Santa Ana residents and Newport Beach employers?

If we are going to operate this program in and for Costa Mesa,

residents and business owners of other communities should pay for the

service. Or move it to Newport Beach. This is another case of the

liberal establishment purporting to know what is best for the rest of

us.
