New executive director tapped for Girls Inc.

Lucy Santana was appointed as executive director of Girls Inc. of

Orange County at its July board meeting.

Santana, who has a long history with youth development programs,

will succeed Interim Executive Director Carole Zavala in September

and become the first Latina appointed to the position.

As executive director, Santana will be responsible for the

day-to-day management of the Orange County chapter and oversee the

after-school and tutoring programs, special events and funding.

The new director joined Girls Inc. in 1999 and has been

instrumental in the development and creation of the Eureka! Summer

program for Orange Coast College, a UC Irvine Career Day and the

expansion of outreach programs throughout the Orange County

Department of Education.

Santana worked for 10 years with the Santa Ana parks and

recreation agency and served as the program coordinator for the city.
