Slammers win tourney title

The Slammers FC, a local girls’ soccer team featuring several

players from Huntington Beach, captured the Newport Classic

Tournament last weekend by defeating the Irvine Strikers, 2-1, in the

tournament final.

The Slammers, a Newport Beach-based Girls’ 11 squad, benefited

from goals by Zoe Dickson and Danielle Wisniewski in the final match.

The defense, which held a strong Irvine team to just one goal, was

paced by goalkeeper Emma Stevens, sweeper Arielle Lysacek and

fullbacks Kali Fournier and Taylor Nicolosi.

Channing Press and Gabriela Trenton led the Slammers in scoring

during the tournament.

Patty Keleher, Aubrey Georgianni, Kira Graham and Rachel Clark

also contributed to the Slammers’ run to the tournament title.

Keleher, Seymour, Clark, Graham, Fournier and Nicolosi previously

played AYSO soccer in regions 56 and 117 in Huntington Beach.
