It’s mid-August, and it’s the time of year when youngsters through

the age of 15 will gather on the Huntington Beach Pier to participate

in the Huntington Beach Huck Finn Fishing Derby.

The annual fishing derby will take place Saturday. Registration,

which is free, will begin at 8 a.m. the morning of the event.

Participants are required to bring their own pole, bait and tackle.

Youngsters who register for the derby are eligible to contend for

numerous prizes provided by nearly 70 contributing sponsors.

Bicycles, fishing poles and fishing passes are a few of the prizes to

be awarded.

The contest will run from 9 a.m. to noon. Awards will be given out

for the “Largest Fish” and the “Best-dressed Huck Finn and Becky

Thatcher.”

The Huntington Beach Huck Finn Fishing Derby is presented by the

city of Huntington Beach and co-sponsored by Let’s Go Fishing and

Fish Talk Radio.

Captain Ron Baker and Mike Gardner of Fish Talk Radio, along with
