Sandpipers’ super summer party

The Sandpipers in support of Hoag Hospital held a smashing summer

party at the Pelican Hill estate of Lee and Bob Modzeleski. The theme

was pure jazz as Spyrogyra created musical magic in the sage-covered

coastal hills.

The late afternoon Sunday reception was hosted by the generous

Modzeleski family and co-chaired by Carolyn Reed and Kellie Smith.

The annual summer party attracted around 200 chic Hoag devotees

dressed in cool summer cocktail attire, raising funds for the Hoag

Hospital Foundation benefiting the Hoag Cancer Center and the new

Hoag Women’s Pavilion.

Supporting the Sandpiper event were committee members Arlene

Ballerini, Cyndy Haug, Mallory Heydorff, Janet Kane, Roseanne

Levan-Levi, Junita Madole, Rosalie Puleo, Roni Robin, Mary Jane

Rumbley, Susan Selcer and Kymberly Spector.

GOLF TOURNEY HELP

Gloria Osbrink is thrilled to report that $45,000 was raised in

underwriting support to benefit the upcoming House Ear Institute Golf

Tournament set for Sept. 16 at Pelican Hill.

“Bids were flying at the pre-event affair”, says Osbrink, offering

praise and gratitude for the support of First American Title, hosts

of the recent patron party. Celebrity endorsement came from Phyllis

Diller, in from Brentwood for the party. Diller, the “queen” of

elective surgery, in her 80’s and looking 20 years younger, joined

Dr. Howard House, event chair Elizabeth Vincent of Harbor Island and

a host of guests gathering to support the work of the legendary

House, who most recently made international headlines for the work in

his clinic saving the hearing of radio talk star Rush Limbaugh.

ECLECTIC KICK-OFF

The Eclectic Orange Festival will host a kick-off party next

Tuesday at Z-Tejas restaurant, South Coast Plaza. Organizers are

calling the event a “listening party”, as a CD will be distributed to

guests for their listening pleasure. Tracks from the new CD will

feature highlights of the entertainment from this year’s festival

which stars the French equestrian ballet troupe, Theatre Zingaro.

Also featured on the CD will be music from “Latinworks”,

“highlighting the vision and virtuosity of Latin America’s vibrant

music scene”, offers organizer Craddock Stropes.

Festival director Dean Corey is especially proud of the CD. Corey

adds, “This represents just about every style of music coming out of

Latin America.”

The Eclectic Orange Festival is a project of the Philharmonic

Society of Orange County. Approaching its fourth season on the

California Riviera, the festival has an honored tradition of bringing

world-class artists to Orange County for six weeks in the fall.
