Talk about a premature burial

Call Denny O’Neil anything -- but late.

Tuesday’s meeting of the Newport Beach City Council may have

gotten a little too dark for Councilman O’Neil. Corona del Mar

business leader Donald Glasgow had taken to the podium to praise some

of the people he says have helped transform the area. O’Neil ranked

high on Glasgow’s list.

But a moment later, while invoking the memory of Lakers announcer

Chick Hearn, Glasgow accidentally paid homage to the late Mr. O’Neil

-- a flub Mayor Tod Ridgeway was quick to correct.

“News of Denny’s demise has been greatly exaggerated,” Ridgeway

said.
