Orange County arts high school hires Newport firm

A Newport Beach marketing firm has been hired by the Orange County

High School of the Arts in Santa Ana.

Zuckerman Public Relations & Marketing Inc, located at 5020 Campus

Drive, will craft a local and regional public relations program for

the high school -- including press releases, feature stories and

special event stories.

The nationally recognized school provides training to visual and

performing arts students throughout Southern California.

Madeline Zuckerman founded the firm in 1978.

Trio of Newport Beach real estate agents close big deal

A team of three Newport Beach real estate agents oversaw the sale

of a 10-unit apartment complex in Buena Park. The sale closed escrow

July 17.

Rick Applebaum, Ken Morgan and Jay Skenderian of Morgan Skenderian

Investment Real Estate Group closed the deal. Dinh Vu Kim of

Westminster bought the complex for $975,000.

The Burnham Street Apartments, as the complex is known, was

previously owned by Elliott Fund, 79, of Laguna Niguel.

The apartments are located at 5959 Burnham Ave. in Buena Park.

Emulex CEO, Paul Folino, joins music institute board

Gordon Shaw, co-founder and chairman of the Music Intelligence

Neural Development Institute announced this month that Paul F.

Folino, chairman and chief executive of the Costa Mesa based

corporation Emulex, joined the institute’s board of directors.

Folino, who has contributed $500,000 to the nonprofit institute,

has been a longtime supporter along with his wife Daranne.

The institute uses music training and math games to help

elementary children enhance their ability to visually think, reason

and perform on tests. The goal is that by helping children learn

mathematics they will become more prepared for the competitive

high-tech world.

Harry and David to open new gourmet store at Metro Pointe

Harry and David will open its newest store Wednesday at Metro

Pointe at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa.

The store, which will be the 125th location in a major regional

mall or outlet center nationwide, will be located near Starbuck’s.

The location was selected based on the large number of catalog

customers already in that market area.

The company, which has provided Americans with gourmet food gifts

for more than 65 years, will also provide chocolates and fine

confections like truffles, chocolate-covered fruits and baked goods.

And the new store, just like its catalog, will offer customers the

finest in specialty foods and fresh fruit gifts.

Harry and David is known for its Fruit-of-the-Month Club, Royal

Riviera Pears and Tower of Treats.

Costa Mesa insurance broker awarded as top salesman

Northwestern Mutual Financial Network recognized Ira Hermann, a

financial representative from Costa Mesa, for his sales achievements

during the year ending in May.

Hermann ranked in the top 20 in sales among 7, 500 financial

representatives from more than 350 offices throughout the country. He

is associated with the network’s Waltos General Agency in Newport

Beach.
