LAGUNA SOUTH COAST CINEMAS

The Laguna South Coast Cinemas will present “Sordid Lives,” a film

about a family in a small Texas town preparing for the funeral of the

mother. The movie will show at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday as part of

the Weekend Foreign & Indie Film Series. Ticket prices are $8 for

NEW MILLENNIUM CONCERT

Works by Mozart, Chopin and Debussy will be performed along with

several world premiere compositions at Jeffrey Briar’s “New

SUNDAY CLASSICAL MUSIC SERIES

The Festival of the Arts in conjunction with Music in the Park and

the City of Laguna Beach will present the Fries-Glenn Duo. The

LAGUNA ART MUSEUM

The museum will host a conversation, “Is Surfing Design?” as part

of its Real Life in the Coastal Zone: Surf Culture Lecture series.

David Carlson, designer of the book “Surf Culture:, and a surfer for

over 30 years will discuss the relationship between surfing and his

JUMPING FOR JOY

The Laguna Playhouse will begin previewing “Jumping for Joy,” a

new play by Jon Marans, author of Old Wicked Songs, which was a

finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1996. The preview will

show at 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 3 -- 4; 2 p.m. Sept. 3

through 6; and 2 p.m. Sept. 5. The Opening Night Gala will begin at

7:30 p.m., Sept. 7. The show will run through Oct. 6. The Playhouse

FIRST THURSDAY ART WALK

Galleries all over Laguna will open their doors for the monthly

LAGUNA COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN

‘AMERICA: A HEROES’ TRIBUTE’

Written and directed by Edward Jesse Hegel, the play will focus on

the lives of the heroes, the victims and survivors of the tragedy of

Sept. 11. Proceeds from the sale of the book on the play will go to

the Twin Towers Orphan Fund, a charitable trust fund founded to

provide long-term higher educational assistance and mental and

physical health assistance to children who lost a parent in the

attacks. The play will run from Sept. 6 through Sept. 15 at the

Art-A-Fair

The Art-A-Fair Festival is a community of nearly 130 artists who

have competed

to be a part of the juried competition. The festival will be open

from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 10

p.m. Friday through Saturday through Sept. 1. Art-a-Fair is at 777

Laguna Canyon Road. $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, and Auto Club

members and children 12 and younger are free with an adult.

The Festival of Arts

Since 1932, the Festival of Arts has become world-renowned for its

juried fine art exhibition and the Pageant of the Masters. Free tours

are led by Festival artists at 2 and 4 p.m., daily. The festival will

be open daily from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. through Sept. 1. It is at

650 Laguna Canyon Road. $5 for adults, $3 for children and seniors,
