THE PLACE

Ruby’s Sandwich Saloon

THE JUDGE

Young Chang, Daily Pilot features reporter

THE MEAL

Turkey, mozzarella, lettuce, tomatoes, sprouts and pickles on

wheat/squaw bread

SPEED

Two, three minutes? You walk in, grab a little notepad where you

can check off what you want in your sandwich, hand the note to

someone behind the counter and then pay. In the time it takes to do

all this, the sandwich gets made. I went at 12:30 p.m., when a lot of

other people decided to go too.

SERVICE

No-nonsense yet friendly and quick.

THE VERDICT

Everything about this saloon-reminiscent eatery is fresh and

familiar. You never have to wonder about the food as what you see is

what you get. No fancy sauces, weird meats or weird breads. It’s the

perfect place for those who want to go home for lunch but can’t. A

full sandwich is $4.75 and half is $2.90.
