REPORT CARDS

A move to standards-based report cards has been in the works for

the past two years. The district’s curriculum and assessment are

already aligned to the standards for subjects such as language arts

and math. Teachers have had some input into the new report cards.

Standards for math include number sense, as well as algebra and

functions. Kindergartners already have their own standards-based

report cards.

WHAT TO EXPECT

District staff has recommended that the board approve the new

report cards.

FINAL BUDGET

District staff has revised the tentative budget adopted by the

board on June 18. The budget has been tweaked a little, but there are

no major differences, said Paul Reed, assistant superintendent of

business services.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The board is expected to adopt the final budget, as it is required

by the state Education Code.

INTERNET SAFETY

Over the past two decades, the district has expanded the use of

computers and, as a result, access to the Internet has increased. The

district has taken steps to protect its electronic data and to

implement a Web filter system. All students must also return an

authorization form before they are given access to the district’s

computer systems and network.

Because of the increased use and accessibility, district staff

recommends implementing an Internet Safety Pilot Program, called

I-Safe America, into the elementary schools of the Corona del Mar

zone, seventh-graders at Corona del Mar Middle School and at Rea

Elementary School. If the program proves successful, the district

will expand the program to other schools.
