Adams respected decision-making on Hoag expansion

We would like to thank Newport Beach Councilman Gary Adams for

voting “no” on the expansion request made by Hoag Hospital (“Hoag

gets OK to add to expansion,” Aug. 16).

Adams was trying very hard to maintain the “integrity of the

process.” Passing the expansion has the potential of undoing all the

decision-making that took place in a very long and hard-fought battle

years ago. Adams was also concerned that a precedent may be set

negating previous agreements, agreements that were entered into in

good faith.

We sincerely thank Adams for casting his vote; it was a very

courageous thing to do.

Adams was trying to keep things orderly in each phase of the

expansion by not allowing “carte blanche.” It was an appeal to the

hospital to do the right thing and come back for each phase of

building for approval. This, in our opinion, is the correct thing to

do because no one knows what is going to happen over the next 10

years.

The problem of traffic in the area will be of serious concern for

those of us who will have to bear the burden of it.

What happens when the newly developed Newport Technology Center

opens for business? This very large complex is only two blocks north

of the hospital -- namely Superior and Placentia avenues, Hospital

Road and Newport Boulevard.

Once again, thank you, councilman, for your foresight, wisdom and

courage.
